Here you can find a step-by-step guide on how to get to Rao Island! At the moment there are two main ways you can get there, if you are arriving from an international flight at Manado:
- A flight with one stop from Manado to Morotai, then from Morotai by car and boat to Rao Island. Estimated time is roughly 5 Hours including all transports.
- A ship with one stop from Manado to Rao Island. Estimated time is 1 Night.

A flight with one stop from Manado to Morotai

There are flights once a week at Wednesday from Manado to Morotai with one stop at Ternate city. From there including the stop the flight will usually take 2 to 3 hours.
Once you arrive at Morotai airport you can use the taxi service available there to go to Wayabula harbor (On Google Maps), it will usually take an hour to get there. If you would like to arrange transport in advance, we also have the contacts of local drivers available in the Contacts page.
At Wayabula there’s several small boats that provide transport between Morotai and Rao Island, and from Wayabula it will take 10-20 minutes by boat and you’ll arrive at Rao Island.

There is a ship route between Manado harbor and Rao Island! There is one stop at Dama Island. You can buy a ticket for the ship at the Manado Harbor and it’s also an option to rent your own room at the ship. This is a pretty straight forward way to get to Rao, as once you’re on the ship it will take only 1 night to arrive at the Island.
The current weekly schedule is as follows:
- Departure from Manado to Posi-Posi Rao: Every Friday at 15:00, and arrival on the next day at Saturday afternoon.
- Departure from Posi-Posi Rao to Manado: Every Wednesday at 12:00, and arrival on the next day at Thursday afternoon.
